Are the art classes beginner friendly?

How many students are in each class?
MAKEart Studios focuses on small class sizes so students receive individual attention and guidance. Depending on the class, class size ranges from 6-12 students. This allows each student to work at their own pace and explore ideas more deeply.
Do you offer summer art camps?
Yes. MAKEart Studios offers summer art camps in Downers Grove where students explore themed creative projects such as illustration, design, sculpture, and mixed media. Camps are designed to encourage creativity, experimentation, and problem-solving. Find more info here.
Are materials included in the classes?
Yes. All art supplies are included for all classes and workshops, unless otherwise noted. Students work with high-quality materials including watercolor, ink, markers, acrylic paint, drawing tools, and mixed media materials.
How do I register for art classes?
You can view current classes and register online through the MAKEart Studios website. Check out separate class listings at the top of the page, left hand side drop down menu. Sessions run throughout the year, and new classes are announced regularly.
Do you offer private art lessons or small group workshops?
Occasionally MAKEart Studios offers private workshops and special events for small groups, community organizations, and creative gatherings both on and off site. Read more about daytime reduced rate homeschool art classes here.
Why choose a small art studio instead of a large program?
MAKEart Studios is intentionally small. Classes are taught by professional artist and certified art educator Heather Klausa, allowing students to receive thoughtful instruction, individual feedback, and a supportive creative environment.
Q&A
Does your studio contain stairs? Yes, the studio is located in the basement level of my home. There are 5 stairs coming up the front porch and 14 stairs going down to the studio, with a handrail.
Does you have any pets? Yes, we have an English Lop Rabbit, named Moose. He is kept on a different floor other than the studio.
Do you host parties at the studio? No, sorry, Not at this time.

What happens to my artwork/ my child's artwork if I've left it behind? I typically hold on to it for a month after the class/event ends. Unless you've made special accommodations, it will be repurposed into new materials for art making.

I HAVE TO CANCEL, NOW WHAT?
If the student chooses to cancel before the two week mark, before class is set to begin, there is a 5% processing fee that is deducted from the total refund. Refer below to cancellation policy within 2 weeks of class beginning
If you decide to cancel within 2 weeks of the start of the class or workshop, you will be issued a refund of 50% of the purchase price.
With less than 24 hours of notice and once the class or workshop has begun, no refunds or credits will be issued.
There are no make ups, refunds, or credits for missed days of class or workshops for any reason, including illness or vacation days.
MAKEart CANCELS THE CLASS OR WORKSHOP, WHAT DO I DO NOW?
In the case of weather, MAKEart Studios will do its best to let you know of a cancellation in a timely manner. Typically, we will look to Downers Grove School District 58 and 99 as well as the Downers Grove Park District as a guide.
If a class or workshop is canceled due to weather, personal emergency, or for any other reason, an alternative date, refund, or studio credit will be issued at the discretion of the teacher.
MAKEart WORKSHOP + CLASS MINIMUM ENROLLMENTS
In the case that the class does not meet minimum enrollment numbers, the class or workshop will be canceled and students will receive a full refund. If this is the case, I do my best to give notice a week or more before class starts.
DIGITAL DOWNLOAD REFUND POLICY
No refunds are available for digital downloads. Please double check that you have available software to open documents before downloading.
VIRTUAL CLASS REFUND POLICY
No refunds are available for Virtual Art Classes. Please double check that you have available software to open videos and join virtual classroom before purchasing.
DO YOU OFFER DISCOUNTS FOR CERTAIN GROUPS?
Yes, a number of dates and budget is set aside for this exact purpose. MAKEart Studios has worked with scouts, senior housing, youth groups, county health departments, shelters, and other institutions to provide opportunities for art making at discounted community pricing. Contact Heather to receive more information. Community pricing is different than the MAKEscholarship fund. The MAKEscholarship fund is separate and supports individual students that cannot participate due to their financial situation.
I HAVE A STUDENT THAT WANTS TO PARTICIPATE BUT WE CAN’T SWING IT FINANCIALLY RIGHT NOW?
If you wish to participate in classes at MAKEart, but cannot due to your financial situation, please email me. Scholarships, payment plans, sliding scales, and even trades are all things that have been utilized in the past and can be arranged for the future. Don’t hesitate to contact me so we can problem solve together.

Policies
RESPECT You and/or your child agree to treat all participants of MAKEart Studios art programs with kindness and respect. All students are welcome and the MAKEart is a safe and welcoming space for everyone.
SOMETIMES WE GET MESSY We love to have fun and and sometimes that leads to a mess. You will make sure you or your student is properly dressed for making – this means wearing shoes and clothing that are ok to get dirty in or an art smock.
WE RESPECT OUR MATERIALS We use a wide range of materials in our art projects including, but not limited to: paint, glue, clay, chalk, wire, wax, glue guns, hammers, and other sharp objects. While we do our best to monitor students’ use, accidents may occur from time to time due to the inherent risk in using these materials. You understand that these materials are not meant for consumption and will instruct your child not to consume any materials and to always conduct themselves in a safe manner. MAKEart Studios prides themselves on using high quality professional tools and materials of the trade. Students will treat materials and tools with respect and do their best to keep them in good working order.
SAFETY FIRST Safety is a top priority. You acknowledge that you and/or your child has no physical, emotional, or social conditions that make it dangerous or unwise for your child to safely participate in MAKEart classes. Please pass along any pertinent information upon registration, ensuring that MAKEart can accommodate all students.
ILLNESS Please don't come to class if you're feeling ill. We will catch up up next meet-up when you’re feeling better, and in most cases supplies and directions can easily be arranged to be sent home or . With ever-changing safety standards regarding COVID-19, the most up to date safety protocols will be implemented at the studio owner's discretion. Enrolled participants will be notified of any changes that occur.
PERMISSION TO PARTICIPATE You give your permission for you and/or your child to participate in MAKEart Studio's programs. You release and hold MAKEart and associates harmless from any and all liability that may arise in connection with the studio's art programs.
