Academy of Witches
October Art Program for Kids in Downers Grove

The Academy of Witches is a four-week · over the top · October art program at MAKEart Studios where students step into a thoughtfully imagined world and get to work.

Students are busy from start to finish, building, designing, and problem solving through a series of connected projects. This is a structured studio experience, not a one-day craft. The energy is playful and imaginative, while the work stays focused and purposeful.

Each week builds on the last, with students working in small groups and using high-quality materials as they develop their projects. There is a strong sense of momentum as the month unfolds, with each session adding new layers and ideas.

Projects include prop building, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media. Students create objects that feel essential to their world, pieces that are meant to be kept, displayed, and brought out year after year.

Along the way, art connects with science, history, and design. Students experiment with materials, test ideas, and think through how things are made while building real skills and confidence.

The tone is imaginative and fun, but the work is real. Students leave with stronger technique, a deeper understanding of materials, and a body of work they are proud of.

The Academy of Witches runs for four weeks beginning in early October and replaces regular MAKEart classes during that time.

Registration opens in July.
